Background

Eglah’s Training Center (ETC) for Women (& Families) was established by Mrs. Jane Menzies Bennett in memory of her mother, the late Mrs. Eglah Merline Menzies, an outstanding Belizean educator.

ETC is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), established in 2002 with a mission of serving the community through educational programs for women. It was later recognized that there was a need for both women and their families to access basic literacy skills through programs offered at ETC.

ETC is governed by a Board of Directors who meet monthly to discuss the affairs of ETC. The Ministry of Education has recognized and endorsed ETC as an Adult Education Institution and provides ongoing and committed support.  From time to time, members of the community have also contributed significantly by volunteering their services as educators.

This institution functions within its mandate of providing leadership, basic life and literacy skills, as well as the Computer Assisted Learning Software (CALS)—Academy of Reading and Academy of Math software suite.

ETC promotes activities to assist persons in improving their socio-economic situation and to strengthen family relationships, while carrying out advocacy and networking strategies for its programs.  ETC also does its own fundraising and solicits financial support from various sources, including individual private sponsorship.
